Pyeongtaek City Seeks Honorary Citizen Nominees; Nominations Open Through November 10
For foreign nationals, overseas Koreans, and residents of other regions
Joint signatures from at least 30 Pyeongtaek residents required
Pyeongtaek City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Choi Wonyong), announced on October 23 that it is accepting nominations for its 2026 Honorary Citizens program, which recognizes foreign nationals, overseas Koreans, and residents of other regions who have contributed to the development of the city.
Nominees must not be residents of Pyeongtaek City. They may be individuals who have cooperated in international exchanges or the implementation of city policies, or contributed to the city's development in fields such as culture, arts, sports, science, technology, and the economy. Those who have devoted themselves to local development and volunteer work and helped foster unity among citizens are also eligible.
To submit a nomination, applicants must provide a recommendation form bearing the joint signatures of at least 30 Pyeongtaek residents. Applications will be accepted from October 21 to November 10. The relevant forms can be downloaded from the “Notices and Announcements” section of the Pyeongtaek City Hall website.
The city will select the final recipients following a review by the committee responsible for deliberating on the awarding of honorary citizenship certificates. The certificates are scheduled to be presented at an awards ceremony on November 23, marking the 31st anniversary of Pyeongtaek Citizens' Day.
Pyeongtaek City has selected a total of 124 honorary citizens since 2003. Since last year, it has accepted nominations through a public call for candidates.
