National Aerospace Competition to Be Held at Kumoh National Institute of Technology on October 24
More Than 3,000 Took Part in Nationwide Preliminaries; Competitors to Vie in Six Categories, Including AI-Assisted SF Webtoons

More than 600 young people selected from across the country will launch rockets they built themselves and compete to demonstrate their drone autonomous-flight skills. This year, two new categories have been added: AI-assisted science-fiction (SF) webtoons and original model rockets.

The Korea Aerospace Administration said on October 23 that it will hold the 24th National Aerospace Competition on October 24 at Kumoh National Institute of Technology in Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province.

More than 600 of the roughly 3,000 participants in regional preliminaries held nationwide since June advanced to the final round. Participants will compete in six categories: water rockets, model rockets, electric-powered aircraft, coding drones, original model rockets, and AI-assisted SF webtoons.

Rockets and electric-powered aircraft will be judged on their construction and flight performance, while coding drones will be tested in autonomous flight using programs written by the participants themselves. The newly added original model rocket category will be judged based on the results of two launches, and the winning AI-assisted SF webtoons will be released in November.

Hosted by the Korea Aerospace Administration and organized by the Korea Science and Space Youth Corps, the competition began in 2003. Participation is open to young people who are not members of the organization.

Tae seog Oh, head of the Korea Aerospace Administration, said, "We will continue to develop the competition in line with the changing science and technology environment and actively support it so that it can establish itself as a flagship competition for young people."
