Focus on Policies Residents Can Feel in Their Daily Lives
Mapo District in Seoul (District Mayor Yoo Donggyun) has finalized 67 pledges to be pursued over the four-year ninth elected administration. Space-improvement projects, including the construction of a complex cultural and sports center, account for the largest share, with 30 projects, followed by AI administration, care tailored to each stage of life, and green-space and education policies.

A Future We Build Together.” Since June, the district has reviewed the conditions for implementing each pledge and, following a review meeting on pledge implementation in August, reassessed funding, sites, and regulations.
The five goals are Vibrant Mapo, Smart Mapo, Safe Mapo, Healing Mapo, and Future Mapo. “Vibrant Mapo, Transforming Spaces” includes 30 projects, such as constructing a new Gongdeok-dong Community Service Center and relocating the Yeomni-dong Community Service Center; building complex cultural and sports centers at Mapo Yusuji, Ahyeon-dong, and Saetteosan, as well as an underground swimming pool at Shinsu Children’s Park; improving the environment in areas densely populated with detached and multi-family homes; and expanding support to revitalize local commercial districts.
“Smart Mapo” comprises eight projects, including establishing “Mapo Brain,” an AI-powered administrative assistant; building a safety experience center; expanding the use of AI CCTV; and providing expert support in redevelopment and reconstruction areas. Mapo Brain has been operating for district employees since August 7.
“Safe Mapo” comprises 14 projects, including expanding shared childcare spaces in apartment complexes; a congratulatory package for newborns; “Mapo Itada,” which provides transportation expenses for children; establishing Geunyanghaedeurim Centers; meals for older residents; and expanding Mutual Care Houses. The district also enacted an ordinance to establish a legal basis for operating Geunyanghaedeurim Centers.
“Healing Mapo” includes seven projects, such as “Planting 5 Million Trees Again,” creating the Hongdae Street Renaissance cultural tourism belt, and developing 10 walking trails. “Future Mapo” includes eight projects, such as establishing a one-stop education special zone, expanding education subsidies, building the Yeomni Youth Center, and supporting young people with employment and start-up opportunities.
This month, the district will draw up a draft pledge implementation plan detailing each project, annual targets, and performance indicators. After review by a pledge implementation evaluation panel made up of residents, the plan will be published on the district office website in January 2027. The district also plans to regularly monitor implementation progress.
