BNK Financial Group to Build Shared AI Platform with Samsung SDS, Ending Separate AI Use by Affiliates
Gradually apply generative AI to duties, lending, and foreign exchange, while establishing an integrated group-wide management framework
BNK Financial Group, chaired by Bin Dae-in, is moving to build a generative artificial intelligence (AI) platform shared by its affiliates. The project goes beyond introducing AI for individual tasks, integrating service infrastructure and management systems at the group level.
BNK Financial Group announced on October 22 that it had selected Samsung SDS as the preferred bidder for its “Group-wide Generative AI Platform Development” project and was discussing detailed plans for its implementation.
The project aims to reduce duplicated investment and expand the scope of AI applications by enabling affiliates to use the AI services they need through a shared platform. BNK Financial Group plans to gradually apply generative AI to a range of tasks, starting with searches for duties and regulations and expanding to lending, foreign exchange, groupware, and internal knowledge searches.
Alongside introducing AI into its operations, the group will also establish systems to manage it safely. Taking into account the characteristics of financial companies, it will create an “AI Governance Portal” to manage the entire process, from planning and developing AI services to evaluating, verifying, and operating them, and to identify potential risks in advance.
The group will also revise its AI management standards. Based on the results of AI governance consulting conducted primarily with BNK Financial Group, BNK Busan Bank, and BNK Kyongnam Bank, it plans to extend the relevant framework to all affiliates. It will also work with Kim & Chang to reflect AI guidelines and regulatory developments from financial authorities.
BNK Financial Group held a proposal evaluation committee in September and selected Samsung SDS as the preferred bidder after assessing its technical capabilities, the stability of its platform development, and its ability to carry out the project. Technical negotiations are currently underway on the system configuration and detailed scope of the project.
