The county is conducting investment-attraction activities targeting major domestic companies to bring relevant businesses to the Geochang Advanced General Industrial Complex, which is under development with completion targeted for 2027.
The Geochang Advanced General Industrial Complex is being developed across 307,688 square meters in Daesan-ri, Namsang-myeon, Geochang County. Of this area, 191,708 square meters are designated for industrial facilities. The project is being carried out with completion targeted for September 2027.
The county expects that once development of the industrial complex is complete, it will provide a base for companies in advanced manufacturing as well as businesses that can connect with the existing elevator industry.
During the visit, Governor Lee explained the foundation for clustering the elevator industry in Geochang County, the potential for cooperation among related companies, and the area's transport links between the Yeongnam and Honam regions.
He also introduced the location advantages of the new industrial complex and the county's plans for attracting businesses, and exchanged views on companies' investment needs and the potential uses of the complex.
Geochang County is pursuing plans to develop industries that build on the existing industrial base centered on the elevator sector and connect it with advanced technology fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and drones.
In particular, under its vision of becoming a "capital for strategic technology demonstration," a pledge project of the ninth popularly elected administration, the county plans to support the convergence of existing manufacturing and advanced technology and expand the foundation for research and development and technology demonstration by relevant companies.
The county plans to continue its business-attraction efforts by assessing each company's investment needs and location requirements and linking them with plans to supply industrial facility sites at the Geochang Advanced General Industrial Complex.
It also plans to assess the infrastructure and investment support conditions needed for companies to set up operations and explore ways to create local jobs by fostering clusters of related industries.
However, the visit to Hyundai Elevator's headquarters was intended to explain the investment environment and hold discussions with company officials; no specific investment agreement has been signed, and no decision has been made on the company's entry into the complex.
The county plans to pursue the relevant procedures to turn the discussions with companies into actual investment.
Geochang County's efforts to attract investment from major domestic elevator manufacturers can be seen as an attempt to connect the existing elevator industry base with the new industrial complex.

However, a company visit and an explanation of the investment environment alone are not enough to assess actual investment outcomes. Key factors will include whether Hyundai Elevator and other related companies express an intention to invest and the possibility of their setting up operations, as well as confirmation of specific investment amounts and employment plans.
