KOSPI Slides Around 2% on Semiconductor Profit-Taking; Earnings and Shareholder-Return Stocks Gain Selectively
South Korea’s stock market is weakening again, giving back some of the gains from the previous session. The KOSPI has slipped into the upper 5,500s, while the KOSDAQ has fallen into the 770s. In the main bourse, foreign and institutional investors are both selling, while individual investors are absorbing the selling pressure with net purchases of more than KRW 200 billion.
Major U.S. indexes and the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index rose, but profit-taking weighed on major domestic semiconductor stocks. Samsung Electronics fell in the 2% range and SK hynix in the 3% range. EcoPro BM and Jusung Engineering also weakened, adding to pressure on the electrical and electronics and machinery and equipment sectors.
In a market where the direction of indexes can change sharply from one day to the next, CEO Kim Jin is focusing on stocks with confirmed grounds for fund inflows, such as earnings and corporate disclosures, rather than simply looking at how much their prices have fallen. The analysis is that even when the broader market is volatile, buying may continue independently in companies with improving earnings outlooks or shareholder-return policies.

On both the KOSPI and KOSDAQ, declining stocks substantially outnumber advancing stocks, and perceived volatility remains high. CEO Kim Jin is monitoring whether supply and demand for major semiconductor stocks stabilizes and assessing the next movement of funds, focusing on stocks with concrete catalysts such as earnings, orders, and treasury share policies.
