SAMSUNG E&A's Q3 Operating Profit Rises 183.6% YoY to KRW 500.6B
Cumulative operating profit reaches KRW 961.9 billion...Full-year target surpassed ahead of schedule
Revenue from large-scale chemicals and advanced-industry projects begins to come through in earnest
KRW 780 billion share buyback...Expanded shareholder returns
SAMSUNG E&A posted operating profit of KRW 500.6 billion in the third quarter of 2026, extending its strong earnings performance. The results were driven by revenue from large-scale chemicals and advanced-industry projects beginning to come through in earnest, along with improved profitability from cost management and technology-driven business innovation. The company raised its full-year order intake and operating profit forecasts and plans to buy back approximately KRW 780 billion worth of its own shares.
In a preliminary earnings announcement on October 22, SAMSUNG E&A said it recorded consolidated revenue of KRW 2.9105 trillion and operating profit of KRW 500.6 billion in the third quarter of 2026. These figures represent increases of 45.8% and 183.6%, respectively, from the same period last year.
Cumulative revenue for the first three quarters reached KRW 7.7872 trillion, while operating profit totaled KRW 961.9 billion. SAMSUNG E&A said, "As revenue from large-scale chemicals projects and advanced-industry projects began to come through in earnest, productivity and profitability improved significantly through rigorous project cost management and innovations in project execution based on technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), data centers (DT), and robotics."
Order intake was also strong. New orders totaled KRW 9.4 trillion in the third quarter, bringing cumulative orders to KRW 17.1 trillion. The order backlog stood at KRW 27.2 trillion at the end of the third quarter, securing approximately three years' worth of work based on last year's revenue of KRW 9 trillion. In particular, a fertilizer project worth approximately KRW 4.7 trillion, awarded directly by Saudi Arabia's SABIC Agri-Nutrients in September 2026, helped boost results.
With both cumulative orders and operating profit exceeding their full-year targets, SAMSUNG E&A raised its full-year order intake forecast from KRW 12 trillion to KRW 19 trillion and its operating profit forecast from KRW 800 billion to KRW 1.4 trillion.
The company will also expand shareholder returns. At a board meeting on October 22, SAMSUNG E&A decided to buy back approximately KRW 780 billion worth of its own shares over three months, from October 23, 2026, through January 22, 2027. Of this amount, shares worth KRW 690 billion will be acquired and canceled to enhance shareholder value, while the remaining KRW 90 billion worth will be used for purposes including employee bonuses.
The decision is intended to share with shareholders the results of exceeding management targets and to increase corporate value. The company said it considers the current period an opportune time for a special shareholder return, as growth momentum is expected from integrating AI and robotics with its EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) technologies and data to improve design efficiency and optimize costs, project schedules, and systems.
