Kia EV6 GT Tops German Auto Magazine Ranking, Beating Tesla and Chinese Cars
Ranked first with 585 points in Auto Motor und Sport test
Earned the highest scores in safety, powertrain, and driving performance
Kia's high-performance electric vehicle, the EV6 GT, took first place in an electric vehicle comparison test by a German automotive magazine, beating Tesla and Chinese brands.
Kia said on October 22 that the EV6 GT ranked first overall with 585 points in a comparison test of high-powered electric vehicles by German automotive magazine Auto Motor und Sport. The Tesla Model Y Performance placed second with 576 points, followed by the Zeekr 7GT Privilege AWD (569 points), Polestar 4 Coupe Dual Motor (531 points), and BYD Sealion 7 AWD Excellence (508 points).
The evaluation covered seven categories: body, safety, comfort, powertrain, driving performance, environmental friendliness, and economy. The EV6 GT scored highest in safety (89 points), powertrain (105 points), and driving performance (96 points).
In the safety category, its braking performance and driving stability received high marks. When braking to a stop from 100 km/h, the EV6 GT recorded stopping distances of 34.5 meters in cold conditions and 33.5 meters in hot conditions. Both were the shortest among the vehicles compared. It was also recognized for its driving stability in slalom and double lane-change tests.
In the powertrain category, the EV6 GT scored 105 points, powered by a maximum output of 478 kW (650 horsepower). The evaluation also considered power delivery, regenerative braking performance, the range of regenerative braking settings, and the one-pedal driving function.
Its driving performance score of 96 points was 20 points higher than the 76 points earned by the Tesla Model Y Performance, which placed second. The EV6 GT recorded speeds of 67.6 km/h in the 18-meter slalom test and 132.9 km/h in the double lane-change test, the highest passing speeds among the vehicles compared in each test. Steering performance and the variety of driving modes were also evaluated.
In its overall assessment, Auto Motor und Sport said the EV6 GT won the comparison test on the strength of its driving performance. It also cited the virtual gear-shift function and drift mode as features that set the vehicle apart from the others.
