Building Media Literacy Through Exhibitions and Theater... Media Literacy Week Opens Oct. 23
Interactive events include a special exhibition, escape room and play; run through November 16.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on October 21 that it will hold the 2026 Media Literacy Week, or Miri Week, with the Korea Press Foundation from October 23 through November 16. Media literacy refers to the ability to understand media and to think critically and from multiple perspectives.
This year's Miri Week was designed to let members of the public experience firsthand its core message: "The same facts can look different depending on where you stand." Through a range of interactive programs, including a special exhibition, an escape room game and a play, visitors can experience the importance of media literacy—not simply accepting information as it is, but examining the evidence and making their own judgments.
Three main experiential events will be held in Seongsu-dong, Seoul. The new special exhibition, "Anigeunde Jinjja Manyagejeon," will be presented for the first time at a pop-up store at 5 Seongsui-ro 18-gil, Seongsu-dong, from October 24 to November 8. Visitors will spend a day in 2046, when artificial intelligence (AI) has become deeply embedded in everyday life, and experience how AI's judgments can also reflect just one perspective.
The escape room game "Jump x Cut 2.0," also held at the same venue, is an immersive game in which participants start with a news story, track clues about an incident and experience how their views change as they learn more.
At Uran 2 Gyeong, part of the Wooran Foundation nearby, the play "Jump x Cut" will make its official premiere from November 7 to 15. Through the conflicting accounts and memories of six people involved in an incident, the play asks the audience, "How do I take in what someone else tells me?"
Alongside the experiential events, related programs exploring media literacy and the future of journalism will run for three weeks. On October 23, the National Media Education Conference will be held at the Korea Press Center under the theme "Asking How to Educate the Digital-Native Generation About Media."
On November 14, the Miri Awards will be held at Cube Convention Center, honoring winners of the 7th News Reading, News Diary Contest and the 8th Youth Checkathon. On the final day of the event, November 16, the Press Foundation Journalism Conference will be held at the Korea Press Center under the theme "Asking What the Next 10 Years of Journalism Will Look Like."
All programs are free and open to anyone aged 12 or older. Reservation details and schedules for each program are available on the official 2026 Miri Week website.
