They agreed to strengthen cooperation on seven agenda items, including vocational education linked to strategic industries and the development of local talent.
The central initiative is to establish a working-level consultative body linking industrial policy with vocational education. The two institutions will reorganize departments at vocational high schools to meet demand from key industries in the province, including tourism, clean energy, AI and data centers, and defense drones. They also plan to jointly respond to calls for applications for agreement-based specialized high schools and establish a system to train talent needed by local industries.
Cooperation between high schools and universities will also be expanded. Through a regional talent development support project involving the provincial government, universities, and the education office, they will jointly develop high school subjects and educational programs and support the operation of the high school credit system. The aim is to expand students' choice of subjects and improve their competitiveness in university admissions.
They will also expand field trips that make use of local resources. Starting with the province's proposal to promote experiential learning at Taebaek 365 Safe Town, they will broaden programs linking local communities with institutions directly affiliated with the education office. The education office plans to strengthen safety support to ease the burden on schools of organizing field trips.
They will also pursue ways for schools and local communities to share facilities. The province will provide funding needed to open school sports facilities to the public and cooperate in using local public facilities for public after-school programs for students at small schools. They also agreed to work together to establish and operate a regional school meal support center.
