Jeonbuk Identifies 146 New Projects for 2028 National Budget
Focused on future industries such as Physical AI and secondary batteries
Additional projects to be identified through December; project plans to be fleshed out
Jeonbuk State has identified 146 new projects to secure national budget funding for 2028, focusing on key regional industries such as Physical AI, secondary batteries, and agriculture and life sciences. The projects have a total cost of KRW 4.8119 trillion, including a request for KRW 199.4 billion in national funding for 2028.
On October 21, Jeonbuk State held a briefing on the discovery of new projects for the first round of the 2028 national budget, chaired by the Administrative Deputy Governor. The meeting reviewed the status of project identification by department and plans for moving forward.
From August through October, the province identified projects in cooperation with cities and counties, the Jeonbuk Research Institute, and other relevant institutions. The effort focused on aligning government policy priorities with Jeonbuk’s industrial and regional characteristics, while assessing the likelihood of securing national budget funding and the conditions for implementing each project.
By sector, the economy and industry category accounted for KRW 77.2 billion, or 38.7% of the total national funding requested. Key projects identified in this category include initiatives to develop technologies and establish demonstration infrastructure for future industries such as Physical AI and secondary batteries.
Major projects include attracting companies in new industries to Jeonbuk and promoting open innovation; developing and demonstrating next-generation, highly corrosion-resistant plasma materials for semiconductor and display processes; establishing a seed industry innovation cluster; building a National Maritime City Science Museum; constructing the Saemangeum North-South Axis 3 road; piloting the conversion of aging cultural centers into multifunctional cultural facilities; and building a public livestock manure treatment facility in Imsil.
At the briefing, Jeonbuk State reviewed the grounds for national funding and the implementation conditions for each project, and discussed what needed to be improved to secure inclusion in the national budget. The province plans to detail implementation plans and funding arrangements for each project, and prepare preliminary procedures, including incorporation into national plans and feasibility studies.
Through December, the province will identify additional projects with cities and counties, the Jeonbuk Research Institute, and other partners. It will also flesh out detailed plans for previously identified projects and large-scale national projects under review by the Jeonbuk Mega-Project Discovery and Promotion Task Force. The province plans to continue identifying new projects through April 2027.
