A total of 145 Taiwanese tourists will visit local festivals in Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province to sample some of Korea's best-known street foods, including tteokbokki, gimbap and ramyeon. The visits are the result of the Korea Tourism Organization's efforts to develop local food festivals into tourism products in partnership with local governments and Taiwan's travel industry.

Since September, the organization has worked with major travel agencies in Taiwan through its Taipei office to develop inbound tourism products themed around street food festivals. The effort has attracted 145 Taiwanese tourists, who are scheduled to visit the Daegu Tteokbokki Festival and the Gimcheon Gimbap Festival from October 23 to 24.
The product was developed in view of the high proportion of Taiwanese visitors among international tourists using regional airports, including Daegu International Airport and Gimhae International Airport. Given the strong interest in Korean food and culinary trips in Taiwan, local food festivals were added to the travel itinerary.
The sixth Tteokbokki Festival in Daegu Buk-gu will be held from October 23 to 25 around Daegu iM Bank Park. The event will feature a variety of food and hands-on activities centered on tteokbokki.

The organization plans to continue its overseas promotions by linking the festivals with the Gumi Ramyeon Festival, which will be held around Gumi Station in North Gyeongsang Province from November 6 to 8. It plans to invite international influencers to the Daegu Tteokbokki Festival, Gimcheon Gimbap Festival and Gumi Ramyeon Festival to introduce the events and promote them on social media.
The project is drawing attention for connecting K-food, which is popular among international tourists, with regional tourism. It is an effort to distribute inbound tourism demand, currently concentrated in major destinations such as Seoul, across the regions and encourage visits by linking regional airports with local festivals.

"This project is significant because it improves access to regional tourism through links with regional airports and turns local tourism resources into products around a single theme: street food festivals," said Min Byeongseon, head of the Tourism Industry Division at the Korea Tourism Organization. "We will develop distinctive local tourism resources into global tourism content, helping to increase visits to the regions and generate inbound tourism demand."
