Choi Hyejin Determined to Make It Happen on Home Soil This Time

BMW Ladies Championship tees off in Haenam
Still winless since making her U.S. debut in 2022
On an upswing after last week's runner-up finish at Buick LPGA Shanghai

Choi Hyejin is determined to get the job done.

She will compete in the BMW Ladies Championship, an LPGA Tour event, on October 22 at Pine Beach Golf Links (par 72, 6,784 yards) in Haenam County, South Jeolla Province.

It is the only LPGA Tour event held in South Korea. A total of 84 players will compete without a cut for a total purse of $2.35 million (approximately 3.1 billion won) and a winner's prize of $352,500 (approximately 470 million won).

This year, following a business agreement between the KLPGA Tour and the LPGA Tour, 15 players from the domestic tour, including Kim Minsol and Seo Gyorim, will compete.

Since making her LPGA Tour debut in 2022, Choi has yet to win a title. Last week, she narrowly missed out on victory at the Buick LPGA Shanghai, finishing runner-up. She has recorded 33 top-10 finishes on the LPGA Tour, including five runner-up finishes. She is currently ranked 23rd in the world.

Choi was already a standout as an amateur. She has 11 career victories, including two wins on the domestic tour as an amateur. Once hailed as the next Kim Hyo-joo, she has yet to end her title drought on the U.S. circuit. Her recent good form is encouraging. She is determined to claim her first LPGA Tour victory on home soil.

It is unfortunate that world No. 1 Nelly Korda of the United States and No. 2 Jeeno Thitikul of Thailand will not compete. Defending champion Kim Se-young, Yu Hae-ran, who has won two major titles this year, and Kim Hyo-joo, who has earned four victories while competing in the United States and South Korea this season, are strong contenders. Among the domestic players, Kim Minsol, Seo Gyorim, Yu Hyeon-jo, Kim Min-seon, Lee Ye-won and Park Min-ji are also aiming for the title.
