Elon Musk: "SpaceX, Tesla Exploring Merger" (Updated)
"Formed Special Committee to Explore Potential Merger"
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has formalized the possibility of a merger between SpaceX, a space and aerospace company, and Tesla. If the merger goes through, it could become the largest merger deal in corporate history.
According to Bloomberg News on October 20 local time, Musk said during SpaceX's third-quarter earnings call that the company had formed a special committee to explore a potential merger with Tesla.
"I think there are significant advantages to combining the two companies," Musk said. "We are effectively reaching the singularity of superintelligence (SI), and there is a lot to gain from working together on SI software development."
His remarks suggest that Musk is seriously considering bringing together under one company the businesses he has pursued in space exploration, satellite communications, artificial intelligence (AI), electric vehicles and robotics. However, merger discussions are at an early stage, and it remains uncertain whether a deal will be completed.
