Booyoung Chairman Lee Junggeun Loses Appeal to Halt Construction in 'Han River View Dispute'
Lee Junggeun, chairman of Booyoung Group, who is embroiled in a legal dispute with Cho Jungho, chairman of Meritz Financial Group, over the obstruction of his home’s view of the Han River, also lost his appeal in a hearing on his request for an injunction to halt construction.
According to legal sources on October 20, the Seoul High Court’s Civil Division 37-3, composed of presiding Judge Park Eunyoung and Judges Kim Jongki and Min Jeongseok, dismissed Lee’s appeal that day in a hearing on his request for an injunction to halt construction, filed against Cho.
The dispute began in May 2026, after Cho started building a luxury home in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul. Lee claims that the new home obstructs the view of the Han River from his residence, which is located directly behind the home Cho is building.
Earlier, on July 27, 2026, the Seoul Western District Court dismissed Lee’s request for an injunction to halt construction.
At the time, the court acknowledged that construction of Cho’s home would partially restrict the view of the Han River from Lee’s residence. However, it ruled that the view would not be completely blocked because the new home is located diagonally from Lee’s residence.
The court also found that halting construction would offer no practical benefit, as the structural framework of the new home had already been completed.
Lee’s side is also pursuing a separate administrative lawsuit challenging the validity of the building permit. In June 2026, Lee filed a lawsuit with the Seoul Administrative Court against the head of Yongsan District Office, seeking to have the building permit for Cho’s home declared invalid, and requested a stay of execution.
