HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, HD Hyundai's intermediate holding company for its shipbuilding operations, said on October 20 that it had signed a contract with HMM to build eight 13,000-TEU LNG dual-fuel-powered container ships. The total contract value is 1.9196 trillion won.

The ships will measure 337 meters in length, 51 meters in width and 27.9 meters in height, and will be equipped with dual-fuel propulsion engines that can run on both LNG and conventional marine fuel. HD Hyundai Heavy Industries will build two ships and HD Hyundai Samho will build six, with deliveries scheduled to take place sequentially through 2029.

The ships will also be equipped with LNG fuel tanks produced at HD Hyundai EcoVina, HD Hyundai's eco-friendly independent tank manufacturing facility. The group aims to strengthen its value chain in the eco-friendly ship sector by supplying not only the ships but also key equipment directly from within the group.

HD Hyundai plans to expand its cooperation with HMM following this order and strengthen its competitiveness in the market for ships powered by eco-friendly fuels such as LNG and methanol.

An HD Hyundai official said, "We continue to receive inquiries about orders for LNG carriers, LPG carriers and container ships, particularly from global shipping companies. Building on our accumulated design and construction expertise and the trust of our customers, we will expand orders for high-value-added eco-friendly ships and maximize profitability."
