Oh Sehoon: "Supporting Middle-Aged Adults' Challenges"
The Seoul Metropolitan Government has created opportunities for middle-aged and older adults to find new jobs and transition to new careers. The event offers recruitment consultations, on-site interviews, job experience programs and employment consulting, as well as information on finance, health and care services.
On October 20, the Seoul Metropolitan Government held the Seoul Middle-Aged Job Fair 2026 at Exhibition Hall 1 of the aT Center in Yangjae, with 70 companies and related organizations taking part. Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon attended the opening ceremony, presented commendations to representatives of companies and organizations that have helped promote the hiring of middle-aged and older workers, and offered his support to job seekers and participating companies.
The Seoul 50 Plus Foundation, which organized the event, is a Seoul-funded institution that provides comprehensive support for career planning, vocational training, employment and entrepreneurship for people aged 40 to 64. It operates the Middle-Aged Employment Academy at five campuses - Western, Central, Southern, Northern and Eastern - to help middle-aged and older adults transition to new occupations and find new jobs.
Companies hiring workers, businesses in industries friendly to middle-aged and older workers, and policy-related organizations took part in the fair to provide job seekers with a range of employment opportunities and information. At the event, job seekers can learn about participating companies' recruitment areas and job requirements and explore positions suited to their experience. The fair comprises six sections: the Outstanding Employers of Middle-Aged Workers Pavilion, the Jobs Pavilion, the Tomorrow Planning Pavilion, the Middle-Aged-Friendly Industries Pavilion, the Side Events Pavilion and the Policy Information Pavilion. In addition to recruitment consultations and on-site interviews, the fair provides services needed for job searches in one place, including resume and application coaching, one-on-one employment consulting, job experience programs and policy consultations.
Following opening remarks by Mayor Oh, companies and organizations that have helped promote the hiring of middle-aged and older workers and improve perceptions of employment opportunities for them will receive commendations from the Seoul Metropolitan Government. Four organizations - KFC Korea Co., Ltd., the Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation of Korea Polytechnics Seoul Campus, kt cs and Hyundai Green Food - were recognized for fostering workplaces where companies and middle-aged employees can grow together.
After the commendation ceremony, a talk concert will be held with participants in the Middle-Aged Employment Academy and staff in charge of employment training. Participants will share their experiences of leaving familiar jobs, learning new skills and moving on to employment or entrepreneurship. The city plans to continue supporting follow-up matches between participating companies and job seekers through the academy after the fair, and to help participants secure jobs through consultations and vocational training.
