LetsRun Park Busan-Gyeongnam Produces Gimhae Mayor's Cup Winner Victory Champ
The Korea Racing Authority’s LetsRun Park Busan-Gyeongnam (Head Jang Yujin) announced that Victory Champ, owned by Lee Jonghun and trained by Min Janggi, won the Gimhae Mayor’s Cup, held as Race 6 at Busan-Gyeongnam on October 16, with jockey Jin Gyeom aboard.
The race was designed to give 2-year-old horses with limited racing experience a chance to demonstrate their ability and race management skills. Victory Champ, who made its debut in August, also competed.
After the horses made an even start, they battled Musket Storm, Eclipse Vision and others on the final stretch. Victory Champ kept up its pace to the end and was the first to cross the finish line.
Jockey Jin Gyeom said, “Before the race, I planned to follow the horses ahead rather than take the lead, but the horse was in good condition, so I naturally took the lead and guided the race. I trusted the horse and rode accordingly, and it held on well, which helped us win.”
With the Gimhae Mayor’s Cup and the Nonghyup Chairperson’s Cup taking place, the Juvenile Series for 2-year-old horses is also underway. Eclipse Vision, representing the Yeongnam region, secured 300 cumulative points after finishing second in this race, following its runner-up finish in the earlier Gangseo District Mayor’s Cup. In Seoul, Clutch Derby leads the standings after placing second in the Gwacheon Mayor’s Cup and winning this race.
