Contest Expands by Combining AI Content and Live Performance

The 4th LG Video Contest, jointly hosted by Gumi City in North Gyeongsang Province and the Gumi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, achieved an increase in submissions and an expansion of content, helped by the introduction of generative artificial intelligence (AI).

The two organizations held an awards ceremony at Nakdonggang Sports Park in Gumi on October 17 and announced 48 final winning entries. A total of 507 entries were submitted from across the country this year, up 61% from the previous year. The use of generative AI was allowed, lowering barriers to video production, which is believed to have contributed to the increase in participation.

The Grand Prize went to “I Collect Happiness Today, Too,” which tells the story of collecting small moments of everyday happiness and turning them into LG’s energy, brought to life using stop-motion techniques.

“PLAY YOUR DREAM,” the Silver Prize winner in the AI music video category, drew attention after being reimagined as a live performance by Lee Nabin, last year’s Grand Prize winner at the LG Dream Festival. The work was praised for demonstrating new possibilities for the contest by bringing video content to the stage as a live performance.

Yoon Jae-ho, chairman of the Gyeongbuk (Gumi) Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said, “Through fresh works created with AI, we were able to see the affection for the region’s anchor companies and discover Gumi’s hidden charms. We will work to create an environment where businesses can thrive and take the lead in fostering a pro-business climate.”

Gumi Mayor Kim Jang-ho said, “This contest provided a great opportunity to showcase Gumi’s industrial value and the city’s many different facets. I hope video content will bring the stories that LG and the local community have built together to audiences across the country, and that interest in the region will lead to actual visits and spending, as well as shared growth for businesses and the region.”

Starting this year, the city introduced a mobile exhibition, allowing anyone to view the winning entries on the contest’s official website.

Attention is focused on whether increased participation through AI content will help promote the region’s leading companies and the city’s brand, and lead to a tangible boost in tourism and consumer spending.
