GTX-B Incheon Additional Station Project Passes Central Investment Review
Incheon City announced on October 19 that a project to build an additional station near Cheonghak Intersection, midway between Incheon City Hall Station and Incheon National University Station on the GTX-B line, had passed the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s Central Investment Review.
The project’s cost of 269.4 billion won will be fully funded by Incheon City. Construction and operations will be entrusted to a private-sector project operator. The additional station is scheduled to open in early 2034, after the GTX-B main line opens in 2031.
The GTX-B additional station construction project had faced difficulties, including a decline in its benefit-cost ratio (B/C) due to an initial increase in project costs and the potential for contingent liabilities during future operations. Incheon City secured approval in the Central Investment Review by emphasizing the urgency of building the station at the same time as the main line, the need to maintain momentum for redevelopment in the surrounding aging planned city, and the expected increase in ridership from future transfers to the Southwestern Metropolitan Area Line.

The city also plans to work closely with the private-sector project operator to develop detailed plans for designing and constructing the additional station, and to promptly complete subsequent administrative procedures, including signing an agreement to delegate construction and operations.
The GTX-B line is a major metropolitan transit project with a total length of 82.8 km. It will run from Incheon National University Station in Incheon’s Songdo International City, passing through Incheon City Hall, Bucheon, Yeouido, Yongsan Station, Seoul Station and Cheongnyangni Station, before reaching Maseok in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province. The total project cost is 6.8478 trillion won, comprising 4.2894 trillion won in private investment and 2.5584 trillion won in public funding.
The privately funded sections of the line, which include Incheon, span 62.8 km from Songdo to Yongsan and from Sangbong to Maseok. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport received an application for integrated construction commencement in August 2025, and full-scale construction began.
