OCI Holdings said on October 19 that around 70 employees and family members took part in a volunteer activity to plant rare and endemic native plants on October 17 near the OCI Pocheon Training Center in Pocheon, Gyeonggi Province.

The activity was part of the Arboretum Alliance, a public-private partnership project led by the Korea Arboreta and Gardens Institute under the Korea Forest Service. The alliance is a mutually beneficial cooperation framework in which national, public and private arboreta share resources and expertise and work with companies and institutions on joint projects.

Employees and family members from four affiliates - OCI Holdings, OCI, OCI Dream, a standard workplace for people with disabilities, and Bukwang Pharmaceutical - planted 315 individual plants representing 15 species of rare and endemic native plants on a site covering about 200 pyeong. The plants included Korean fir, miseonnamu, hieori, seomguksunamu and buchaeputkkot.

OCI Holdings plans to monitor the plants' growth, flowering and fruiting and collect seeds in cooperation with the Korea Arboreta and Gardens Institute and the Korea Association of Botanical Gardens and Arboreta. Seeds that meet the deposit requirements will be deposited at national seed conservation facilities, including seed vaults.

Cha Jeonghwan, executive director of corporate communications at OCI Holdings, said, "We will continue to pursue biodiversity conservation activities aligned with our identity as a global renewable energy company and further advance our environmental, social and governance (ESG) management."
