Under an agreement requiring pandas born overseas to move to China before they turn four, when they reach breeding age, Rui Bao and Hui Bao, born in July 2023, are also scheduled to move to China in the third week of December this year.
Unlike their older sister Fu Bao, who underwent quarantine out of public view, the twins are expected to continue meeting visitors in their indoor habitat during the quarantine period. Panda Second House, newly built last year, has a spacious, independent indoor habitat completely separated from the outside, allowing visitors to see the pandas while the facility meets quarantine standards.
The twins' last scheduled viewing for general visitors is December 11. The exact date and location of their move will be decided after a comprehensive review of temperatures and local conditions. An Everland representative said, "We plan to carefully monitor the twins' health and the preparations for quarantine and transport, and adjust viewing hours, arrangements, and schedules accordingly."
Everland will hold a variety of online and offline farewell programs to share treasured memories with the twins and cheer them on as they embark on a new chapter. In November, Everland will designate a special commemorative day for Rui Bao and Hui Bao and hold a "Zookeeper Talk Concert" with panda fans. Panda zookeepers including Kang Cheol-won and Song Young-gwan will take the stage to show previously unreleased footage of the twins growing up and share vivid behind-the-scenes stories of raising them. Details on how to apply will be announced later.
Online events will also be held. Through October 21, Instagram will host a photo contest featuring the twin pandas. The best entries submitted with the designated hashtag will be selected to receive Everland tickets and instant cameras. During the same period, the official Naver fan cafe "Zootopia" will hold a short-form video contest and give away Panda World priority admission tickets and commemorative badges celebrating Rui and Hui's third birthday.
Everland will also screen videos at the park showcasing the twins' childhood memories and growth. On social media, zookeepers and cast members will share a series of videos capturing the twins' endearing moments on film cameras. A range of online and offline programs will be rolled out to build a warm wave of support.
"Panda Grandpa" and zookeeper Kang Cheol-won said, "We are caring for Rui Bao and Hui Bao with all our heart so they can safely and healthily begin their new journey. I hope many people will share warm memories with the twins during the precious two months or so before they leave."
