Staff Sergeant Min was visiting his hometown while on leave. As he was heading home after having drinks with friends, he heard a woman shout, "Help me. Please catch that man." He chased Mr. A for about 20 meters, grabbed him by both arms from behind, and restrained him for about 10 minutes. He asked the friends who were with him to protect the woman. The victim suffered bruising to her head that required two weeks to heal, but her injuries were not life-threatening, according to reports.
"At the time, my first thought was that I had to catch the suspect, rather than that I was afraid, and my body moved before I knew it," Staff Sergeant Min said. "I want to continue my military service while building the strength and courage to help people in danger."
Police initially thought Staff Sergeant Min was a civilian, but later confirmed that he was an active-duty soldier. They decided to award him a commendation and a reward for helping apprehend the suspect.

A police investigation found that Mr. A had multiple prior convictions. At the time of the attack, he was wanted for reasons including unpaid fines. He reportedly told investigators that he did not remember why he had attacked the woman in her 20s with a rock as she was heading home after finishing her part-time job. Mr. A and the victim reportedly did not know each other. Police arrested Mr. A and referred him to prosecutors on October 15.
