Several women clash in a brawl... Video spreads on social media
Link to concert remains unconfirmed
A video showing several women engaging in a fierce physical altercation at a venue reportedly hosting K-pop group aespa's concert in Seattle, U.S., has spread online, sparking controversy. Some have speculated that the fight was between aespa fans, but the women's identities and the cause of the altercation have not been confirmed.
On October 15 (local time), a video about 13 seconds long showing women grappling and fighting was posted on the overseas online community Reddit and social media. The footage is reportedly from Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Washington, where aespa performed as part of its world tour on October 9.
The video shows five women grabbing one another and fighting on the floor of a venue corridor. They pull each other's hair, throw punches and kick. Shoes and personal belongings also fall to the floor as the altercation continues. Some spectators watching the fight walk past, while the person filming records the scene while moving.

View original imageAfter footage of the violent altercation spread on social media, online users began asking what led to the fight and how those involved were connected. In particular, because the incident reportedly took place at a venue hosting an aespa concert, many wondered whether it was a dispute between fans or whether it was directly related to the concert.
Some online users speculated that the fight was between concertgoers. Others said it could not be assumed to be directly related to the concert, since it has not been confirmed that the women in the video were aespa fans.
Physical clashes between fan groups have occasionally occurred in the past. One notable example involved members of the fan clubs of H.O.T. and Sechs Kies, who shared the spotlight in South Korea's idol market in the late 1990s. In December 1999, after the year-end music awards ceremony ended, members of the two groups' fan clubs got into a group fight outside KBS in Yeouido, Seoul. Some participants were injured and taken to the hospital, while others were booked by police on assault charges without detention.
