LG Uplus' Memorial Run Honoring Firefighters Who Died in the Line of Duty Concludes Successfully; 119 Active Firefighters Take Part
More than 2,300 Participants Gather
Honoring Firefighters Who Died in the Line of Duty and Supporting Their Families
LG Uplus announced on the 18th that more than 2,300 people, including members of the public, active firefighters, families of firefighters who died in the line of duty, and other officials, took part in the U+ 119 Memorial Run, a running event honoring firefighters who died in the line of duty.
LG Uplus held the event on the 17th in cooperation with the National Fire Agency at Sejong Central Park and the National Sejong Arboretum.
Now in its second year, the event is a public-participation race organized to honor firefighters who dedicated themselves to protecting people's lives and safety and to support their families.
Of the 2,000 people who took part in this year's race, 1,400 ran the 11.9-kilometer course, which reflects the significance of 119, the number symbolizing firefighting, while 600 ran the 5-kilometer course with family members or acquaintances. Participants ran wearing race bibs bearing their own names as well as the names and dates of death of firefighters who died in the line of duty, reflecting on their spirit of sacrifice.
LG Uplus did not hold a separate competition or award ceremony so participants could focus on completing the course safely and honoring the fallen firefighters.
More than 1,000 active firefighters applied to participate, and 119 firefighters attended the event.
After the race, the National Fire Agency held an official memorial ceremony. All entry fees paid by participants will be used to support the families of firefighters who died in the line of duty.
