Woman in Her 70s Assaults Sister in Her 80s: “She Had an Affair with My Husband”
Convicted of causing injuries requiring 12 weeks of treatment
Sentenced to 8 months in prison, suspended for 2 years
A woman in her 70s who assaulted her sister in her 80s after hearing that the sister had been having an affair with her husband was sentenced to prison, with the sentence suspended.
On October 17, Judge Heo Seongmin of the Busan District Court’s Criminal Division 10, sitting alone, sentenced A, a woman in her 70s indicted on charges of assault causing injury, to eight months in prison, suspended for two years.
A is accused of assaulting her older sister, B, in her 80s, at an apartment in Busan around noon on February 20, 2026, causing injuries requiring 12 weeks of treatment. It was established that A became angry and committed the assault after an acquaintance told her that her sister had been having an affair with A’s husband.
A grabbed her sister, who was sitting on a bed, by the hair and pulled her to the floor, then pressed her knee against her sister’s chest. As a result, B suffered a fracture of her left femur and bruising to her knee, among other injuries. The court did not accept this, citing the victim’s statement and A’s statement during police questioning.

Judge Heo said, “The injuries inflicted by knocking down and assaulting an elderly victim were serious. The defendant did not reach a settlement with the victim, and no restitution was made.” He added, “However, the defendant generally admits to the offense, it appears to have been committed impulsively, and she has no prior criminal record,” citing these factors in his ruling.
