Cho Hyunjoon Speeds Up Push into AI Power Grid Market... Hyosung Heavy Industries Doubles Ultra-High-Voltage Circuit Breaker Capacity
Dedicated production of export-bound ultra-high-voltage circuit breakers rated 420 kV and above
Production capacity doubled to better meet orders
Expand supply by linking production bases in the United States and India
Hyosung Heavy Industries has completed a new plant in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province, dedicated to export-bound ultra-high-voltage circuit breakers, and is stepping up its efforts to expand its presence in the global power equipment market. As demand for power grid construction rises with the expansion of AI data centers, the company plans to increase production capacity to meet large-scale orders.

The new plant covers approximately 18,996 square meters and is dedicated to producing export-bound ultra-high-voltage circuit breakers rated at 420 kV, 550 kV, and 800 kV. With the plant now in operation, the company's production capacity for ultra-high-voltage circuit breakers rated at 420 kV or higher has nearly doubled.
Hyosung Heavy Industries has reorganized its existing plant to focus on domestic demand and established a dual-track system, with the new plant producing export-bound products. It has also introduced an integrated production system that handles the entire process, from component manufacturing and assembly to testing and shipment, at a single site. Production capacity for insulation materials, a key component, has also nearly doubled.
The investment is aimed at responding to increased global investment in power grids driven by the expansion of AI data centers. Hyosung Heavy Industries plans to improve its ability to meet delivery deadlines for large orders by expanding production capacity.
The company is also working to expand its overseas production bases. In June, it established a joint venture with U.S. power infrastructure company Quanta Services, securing a local production base for ultra-high-voltage circuit breakers. It has invested a total of $300 million (approximately 440 billion won) to date in its ultra-high-voltage transformer plant in Memphis, Tennessee, and is carrying out further expansion.
Hyosung Heavy Industries plans to expand global supply by linking its new Changwon plant with its production facilities in the United States and India. In Europe, it will strengthen the development of eco-friendly, customized products and local partnerships, centered on its research and development (R&D) center in the Netherlands.
