Gwanak-gu Creates 95 Temporary Parking Spaces on Unused Public Bus Depot Land, Opens Them Free of Charge
Public Bus Depots Repurposed to Create 51 Parking Spaces in Daehak-dong and 44 in Seorim-dong
Gwanak-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Park Junhee) said on October 16 that it will create 95 spaces in temporary public parking lots on unused land at the Sillim 2 and 3 public bus depots and open them free of charge to ease parking shortages in residential areas and local commercial districts. The project makes use of surplus space at the existing depots, without purchasing additional land.

In Daehak-dong, 51 spaces will be created across approximately 1,300 square meters, excluding maintenance facilities. In Seorim-dong, 44 spaces will be created across approximately 1,500 square meters, excluding the compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling facility.
At the Seorim-dong lot, the access routes for CNG-fueled buses and parking lot users have been separated, and a safety fence has been installed between the fueling facility and the parking lot. The Daehak-dong lot will operate from October 15 through June 2027, and the Seorim-dong lot from October 26 through December 2027. Vehicles no taller than 2.3 meters may use the lots free of charge.
Parking is limited to 24 hours per visit. Double parking and other actions that obstruct vehicle movement or exit are prohibited. Trucks weighing more than 1.5 tons, buses, vans with 16 or more seats, and construction equipment are not permitted.
The district continues to build public parking lots in residential areas to ease parking shortages. Since opening the Nanghyang-dong public parking lot in 2022, it has added 398 spaces at six locations, including the Nangok Smart Public Parking Lot and Moraenae Park Public Parking Lot. It also plans to build the Euncheon Guksabong public parking lot, a lot at Haetae Park in Seorim-dong, and a public parking lot in Daehak-dong.
The district is also running a program that opens unused parking spaces at private facilities to residents. It currently operates 535 spaces at 27 locations, including apartment complexes and religious facilities, and plans to increase the total to more than 550 spaces by the end of this year.

“By making efficient use of existing facilities without purchasing additional land, we have been able to ease residents’ parking difficulties, even if only a little,” District Mayor Park Junhee said. “We will continue to work hard to manage the parking lots so residents can use them safely and conveniently, and to secure parking spaces suited to local conditions.”
