BISTEP Supports Regional Universities in Attracting Government-Funded Projects... Four Selected for Government Grant Programs
First-ever survey of regional universities' needs this year identifies 13 projects, supports 9 of them
The Busan Institute of Science and Technology Evaluation and Planning (BISTEP) is expanding its support to help regional universities attract national R&D projects and secure government funding, covering everything from identifying projects to preparing applications.
BISTEP said that after expanding its support this year to include talent development at regional universities and providing services such as reviews of project proposals and in-depth expert consultations, four of the nine projects it supported were ultimately selected for government grant programs. The selection rate was 44.4%.
BISTEP analyzes government R&D policies and grant program trends to identify projects that regional organizations can participate in. It also supports regional companies, universities and research institutes by reviewing project proposals, helping them prepare for selection evaluations, and providing consultations with experts in relevant fields.
The support targets medium- and large-scale government-funded programs related to developing innovative talent in artificial intelligence and advanced industries and strengthening university research capabilities. These include the Advanced Industry Talent Development Boot Camp Program, the Regional Intelligentization Innovation Talent Development Program, the AI-Centered University Program, the AI Innovation Talent Program, and the Advanced Industry Specialized Graduate School Support Program.
This year, BISTEP conducted a survey for the first time to assess regional universities' demand for support in attracting projects. The survey identified 13 requests for support, of which nine were ultimately selected for assistance. BISTEP reviewed each program's application requirements and evaluation criteria and provided in-depth expert consultations and mock presentation evaluations, helping universities refine their proposals and develop specific strategies for responding to grant calls.
As a result, four projects were selected for government grant programs, including Pusan National University's Regional Intelligentization Innovation Talent Development Program. Building on these results, BISTEP plans to continue supporting regional universities in strengthening their ability to attract national R&D projects.
Going forward, BISTEP plans to identify new grant programs from government ministries at an early stage and survey regional innovation stakeholders in advance about their interest in participating, so it can provide tailored support from the project preparation stage. It will also analyze the evaluation criteria and support outcomes for each grant program and apply the findings to future efforts to help attract projects.
