Selected for the national "K-GX" project

Daedong announced on the 15th that its project to develop a multipurpose AI electric tractor had been selected as a signature project under the Korean Green Transformation “K-GX (Korea-Green Transformation)” initiative.

K-GX is a national strategy to achieve carbon neutrality and sustainable economic growth at the same time. The government plans to invest a total of KRW 1,000 trillion over the next 10 years. Daedong will participate in the electrification of agricultural machinery under “New Growth Engine K-GX.” Through the project, it aims to develop and supply agricultural machinery combining AI-based autonomous driving and electrification technologies, promote carbon neutrality in agriculture, and strengthen the future competitiveness of Korea’s agricultural machinery industry.

Daedong has established a roadmap to commercialize AI-based electric and autonomous tractors by 2030. It has been researching and developing electrification technologies, including a battery-swappable 35 kW-class (approximately 47-horsepower) compact electric tractor. Under this project, it will focus on developing a 55kW-class (approximately 74-horsepower) multipurpose electric tractor. The goal is for the tractor to autonomously perform tasks such as tilling and pest control in a range of agricultural settings, including orchards. Daedong plans to advance core technologies by 2027, build production infrastructure and conduct field trials in Korea and abroad in 2028–2029, then begin commercialization and full-scale deployment in 2030.

The 55 kW-class electric tractor will be developed with a high-efficiency electric drivetrain combining a battery pack capable of powering 4–5 hours of work with a single motor and continuously variable transmission. It will also feature a precision thermal management system that jointly manages the battery, motor, and inverter, as well as a vehicle integrated control unit that coordinates power, drive, and implements. These systems are intended to improve energy efficiency and operational stability in different farming conditions. Daedong’s strategy is to combine these technologies with AI-based autonomous driving and implement control to develop a multipurpose electric and autonomous agricultural work platform capable of performing a variety of farming tasks.

Daedong expects that AI-driven electrification and automation of fossil-fuel-powered agricultural machinery will help reduce carbon emissions. It also expects to address rural aging and labor shortages by combining autonomous operation technologies with precision agriculture solutions, while improving agricultural productivity and environmental sustainability through data-based optimization of energy and input use.

Daedong CEO Won Yuhyun said, “With this K-GX project, we will expand investment from technology development through manufacturing and commercialization, lead the eco-friendly transition of Korean agriculture, and create new growth opportunities in the global market for AI-powered electric agricultural machinery.”
