Fourth Meeting of the Chungjeondae TF Held on October 15
Reviewed Investment Progress with Investing Companies, Local Governments, and Relevant Ministries
Discussed Ways to Address Company-Specific Issues with Permits, Electricity, and Water Supply
Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Kim Jeonggwan chaired a meeting on the 15th of the Public-Private Joint Task Force (TF) for the Chungcheong Region Advanced Strategic Industries Leap Forward (Chungjeondae) and pledged the government’s full and uninterrupted support.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said Minister Kim chaired the fourth meeting of the Chungjeondae Public-Private Joint TF at the Korea Trade Insurance Corporation on the 15th. The meeting was attended by companies investing in mega-projects in the Chungcheong region, local governments in the region, and relevant ministries. It followed an on-site inspection of the Southwestern Region Semiconductor Mega-Project on the 12th.
The Chungjeondae TF was launched on July 3 this year to support the smooth implementation of 392 trillion won in investment in advanced strategic industries, announced at a public briefing for residents of the Chungcheong region in July. At its first meeting on July 30, the TF shared companies’ investment plans and requests. At its second meeting on September 2, it discussed ways with relevant ministries to address each request. At the third meeting, held on September 10, it reviewed the status of permits and approvals at each local government.
Drawing together the TF’s discussions to date, Minister Kim reviewed the progress of each company’s investment and its difficulties and requests, as well as local governments’ progress in processing permits and approvals. He also discussed ways to resolve difficulties with relevant ministries and local governments.
At the meeting, investing companies shared updates on their respective investment plans and raised difficulties and requests concerning permits and approvals, as well as infrastructure such as electricity and water, that need to be addressed in line with their investment schedules. Local governments in the Chungcheong region shared the status of permits and approvals for each company and their plans for handling them. They agreed to work with relevant ministries through the TF to resolve issues requiring coordination among multiple agencies.
“For large-scale investments, carrying out plans smoothly on the ground is just as important as drawing them up,” Minister Kim said. “The government will provide firm support to expedite permits and approvals related to investment, ensure a stable supply of electricity and water, and respond immediately to companies’ difficulties.”
He also said the government would actively address difficulties companies face during implementation. “We will respond immediately to issues that arise at companies’ sites and, if necessary, consult directly with the relevant minister to find solutions,” Minister Kim said. “We will see this through to the end to ensure the Chungcheong region’s mega-projects become a successful model for balanced development across five mega-regions and three special self-governing regions.”
