Toss: "We'll Notify Customers of Prepaid Balances Dormant for 2+ Years"
Customers with balances of at least 1,000 won and no Toss Money activity for two or more years
Regular notifications at least once a year
Balances can be checked in the app and transferred to an account in the customer's name
Viva Republica, the operator of Toss, announced on October 15 that it will proactively notify customers of the balances of prepaid funds that have gone unused for an extended period, in cooperation with financial authorities and major prepaid electronic payment service providers. In addition to Toss, three Big Tech companies, including Naver Financial and Kakao Pay, plan to introduce this month a service that periodically notifies customers of prepaid balances they have not used for an extended period.
According to Toss, the measure is designed to help customers who have not used Toss Money for a long time and were unaware that they had a remaining balance more easily check and manage their assets.
Customers will be notified if they have not recharged or used Toss Money for at least two years and have a balance of at least 1,000 won. Toss plans to notify eligible customers of their balances regularly at least once a year.
Notifications will be sent only through push notifications in the Toss App. Toss said it will not use text messages or email, so customers do not confuse official notifications from Toss with impersonation messages, as cases have recently emerged of scammers posing as financial services and inducing people to click links or enter financial information.
After receiving a notification, customers can check their balance on the "Toss Money Balance" screen in the Toss App and immediately transfer any amount they choose to a bank account in their name. They can select the destination account and amount in the app without submitting documents, applying, or waiting. Toss Customer Support also handles inquiries about balance notifications for long-unused Toss Money and the transfer process.
Toss Money has no expiration date, so balances do not expire even if left unused for a long time. After receiving a notification, customers can keep their Toss Money balance or use it for payments or transfers, and can move it to a bank account in their name whenever they choose.
