Designing Optimal Routes with Optical Infrastructure

KT announced on Wednesday that it will launch an “AI-dedicated circuit” supporting bandwidths of up to 800 Gbps to meet growing demand for high-capacity data transmission as AI data centers expand.

The service increases dedicated-circuit bandwidth from the previous maximum of 100 Gbps to up to 400 Gbps or 800 Gbps, supporting high-capacity data transmission between distributed AI data centers. KT said the service can ensure reliability through its extensive, stable nationwide fiber-optic network spanning 840,000 kilometers and its diversified routes.

In particular, the AI-dedicated circuit strengthens ultra-low-latency performance by applying an APN-based, optical-centric network architecture. APN is a technology that reduces latency by minimizing conversions between optical signals and electricity along the data transmission path. By designing data routes and equipment to suit each customer's environment, the service can transmit high-capacity data even faster.

KT plans to expand the service to AI data center operators and companies building large-scale AI infrastructure. “As AI data centers and graphics processing unit (GPU) infrastructure expand, the importance of ultra-high-speed, ultra-low-latency networks will continue to grow,” said Jeon Myeongjun, head of KT’s Enterprise Service Division. “We will use our AI-dedicated circuit to help customers rapidly build and expand large-scale AI transformation (AX) infrastructure.”
