About 50 people took part in the event, including Bae Youngmin, head of the Infrastructure Division at Incheon International Airport Corporation; Kim Jini, director of the Safety Prevention Division at Incheon Metropolitan City; Jeong Myeongwon, head of the Gyeongin Regional Headquarters of the Korea Elevator Safety Agency; and representatives from Incheon Airport Facility Management, the Elevator Safety Technology Research Institute, and the Safety Culture Promotion Council.
The campaign was organized to prevent accidents at Incheon International Airport, which operates 1,228 vertical transportation facilities—the largest number at a single site in South Korea—including 493 elevators, 490 escalators, and 245 moving walkways. The number of passengers has risen amid a recent succession of holiday periods.
First, the participating organizations shared information on types of elevator accidents and major cases, and discussed measures to reduce them. Based on the discussions, the corporation plans to raise its facility management standards by expanding the use of reduced-speed escalator operations and improving safety signage and other attachments.
They then held an on-site campaign, distributing information leaflets and promotional items to airport passengers. In particular, they explained the “Four Key Safety Rules” for using escalators: hold the handrail, stay within the yellow safety line, hold onto your suitcase, and use an elevator when traveling with a stroller or cart. They also urged passengers to follow the rules.

“Passengers often move around the airport carrying luggage such as suitcases, so they need to take particular care when using elevators,” said Bae Youngmin, head of the Infrastructure Division at Incheon International Airport Corporation. “We will work to spread a culture of safety throughout the airport by thoroughly inspecting facilities and actively promoting safety rules, so that everyone using Incheon International Airport can travel safely.”
