POSCO Future M said on October 14 that it held an "AI Festival" on October 13 at POSTECH in Pohang, North Gyeongsang Province, to share AI applications developed by its employees.

The event was organized to share the results of the "100-Day AI Challenge," which began in June. The company selected and presented awards for 28 outstanding cases in two categories: developing AI apps to improve the efficiency of office and manufacturing work, and producing AI videos for internal communications, safety, and training.

The grand prize went to a "Predictive Model for Calcination Furnace Heater Conditions." The system analyzes the condition of heaters in furnaces used to produce cathode materials and calculates the risk of failure and inspection priorities. By identifying equipment problems in advance, it is designed to reduce unexpected repair work and improve production efficiency.

Two projects received top excellence awards: an "AI-Based Integrated Management and Intelligent Procurement System for Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) Materials" and "Automated Acquisition and Analysis of Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) Data." The technologies integrate searches for materials information and recommend domestic alternatives, and automate the process from capturing product particles with an electron microscope to analyzing their size and shape.

POSCO Future M plans to put the selected projects into actual use by the first half of 2027, following on-site testing and the collection of employee feedback.

In July, the company unveiled its digital innovation vision, the "BoT (Battery of Things) Ecosystem Game Changer," and began pursuing an enterprise-wide AI transformation (AX). Its targets are to increase manufacturing productivity by 30% and cut product development time by 50% by the first half of 2028.

The company is focusing on optimizing processes and systems with AI, building intelligent factories, and integrating data across the production process from raw materials to finished products. To support these efforts, it also launched an innovation project in September to introduce AI across its operations, including manufacturing, research and development, and marketing.
