Hanul Semiconductor Breaks Into Japan-Dominated Market, Supplies MLCC Ultrasonic Inspection System to Delta Electronics Subsidiary in Taiwan
Hanul Semiconductor has secured a global supply foothold for domestically developed equipment in the market for ultrasonic inspection systems used for multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs), a market effectively monopolized by Japanese companies.
Hanul Semiconductor announced on October 14 that it had received an order for its self-developed ultrasonic inspection system for MLCCs from a subsidiary of Taiwan-based Delta Electronics Group.
Delta Electronics Group is a global company whose main businesses include power supplies and thermal management solutions. Its consolidated annual revenue is approximately 25 trillion won. The group has numerous subsidiaries in Taiwan, Thailand, China, and other locations.
The order is significant because it marks the entry of domestically developed equipment into the MLCC ultrasonic inspection system market, which has been effectively monopolized by Japanese Company H. Building on this supply agreement, Hanul Semiconductor plans to expand technical validation with global customers and discuss supplying additional equipment.
MLCCs are key components widely used in high-performance electronic devices, including artificial intelligence (AI) servers and data centers. In particular, high-capacity, high-reliability products require precise inspection technology to detect even minute defects that may arise inside the product.
Hanul Semiconductor's ultrasonic inspection system combines nondestructive testing technology with AI-based automated decision-making. It can inspect internal defects without damaging products and is designed to automatically distinguish between acceptable and defective products based on inspection results.
Through its proprietary AI integrated platform, HaWAIe, the system analyzes inspection data to classify the characteristics and types of internal defects in detail. It also supports monitoring functions that allow users to view inspection results and defect types in real time.
Hanul Semiconductor plans to continuously enhance inspection speed and AI decision-making performance to respond to market changes, including the shift from sample-based inspections to full inspections.
The company is currently conducting tests while discussing equipment specifications with global MLCC manufacturers. It plans to expand the range of equipment applications to meet each customer's production conditions and quality standards and secure additional orders.
The company is also pursuing follow-up development to increase the level of automation in ultrasonic inspection processes. Its plan is to improve production efficiency by building an automated system that links each process, from printed circuit board (PCB) alignment and component mounting to ultrasonic inspection, AI-based decision-making, and product sorting.
Greater localization of equipment is also expected to diversify the inspection equipment supply chain for South Korea's electronic components industry. The company said that as domestically developed equipment is adopted more widely on local production lines, manufacturers will be able to reduce their reliance on foreign equipment while responding more quickly to maintenance needs and changes to process-specific specifications.
