Senior executives from both companies attended, including LG Electronics Vice President Kwak Do-young, head of its North American operations; Vice President Jung Ki-hyun, head of the Home Appliance Solution (HS) Platform Business Center; and Apple Vice President of Hardware Engineering Matthew Costello.
The new products unveiled that day comprise seven devices: an indoor camera, two outdoor cameras (with and without a floodlight), a doorbell, a door lock, a thermostat, and a temperature sensor. They are scheduled to launch first in North America, including the United States and Canada, and in the United Kingdom later this year.
The new products combine LG Electronics' home data and world-class manufacturing capabilities with Apple's intuitive user experience. The companies worked together on their development from the initial concept stage.
The seven new devices integrate seamlessly with LG Electronics' AI home platform, LG ThinQ, as well as Apple's ecosystem, including iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. They can be connected with a single touch, and device usage history is stored in the cloud as personalized data for convenient management.
The thermostat analyzes users' movements, schedules, and weather conditions through an iPhone or Apple Watch to keep indoor heating and cooling comfortable. Using information collected by sensors in each space, it also optimizes heating and cooling throughout the home. The door lock, equipped with multiple sensors, detects subtle user movements and analyzes their intent to enter, opening the door smoothly without requiring any separate operation. It also immediately notifies users on their mobile devices of unusual situations, such as an open door, attempted damage, or unauthorized entry, providing peace of mind.
Products equipped with cameras, including indoor and outdoor cameras and the doorbell, use Vision AI technology to help customers intuitively monitor activity inside and outside their homes. The outdoor camera, which monitors the area outside the home, and the doorbell distinguish between people, animals, cars, and deliveries, and provide alerts tailored to each situation. They also offer durability with an IP65-rated dust- and water-resistance feature.
The indoor camera not only recognizes people and pets but also detects unusual sounds, such as a baby crying or glass breaking, and sends immediate, personalized alerts. In addition, the devices work together seamlessly: when users return home, the indoor camera automatically switches to privacy-protection mode, while the outdoor camera monitors the area around the home 24 hours a day and immediately sends alerts to mobile devices if anything unusual occurs.
The privacy features are built on the two companies' highest-level security technologies. To rigorously protect customers' sensitive day-to-day data, the devices use LG Electronics' LG Shield security solution and Apple's robust data encryption technology to minimize the risk of hacking or data leaks.
The design also brings together LG Electronics' philosophy of appliances designed for living spaces and Apple's minimalism. Available in three colors - Essence Graphite, Essence White, and Essence Silver - the products feature a finish with minimal seams, allowing them to blend naturally into any indoor or outdoor setting.
With these new products, LG Electronics is significantly strengthening its IoT device lineup, a key element of the AI home, and further expanding its AI home ecosystem spanning the ThinQ ON hub, the ThinQ platform, and AI appliances. The company also aims to broaden the reach of its AI home and further enrich the customer experience by integrating seamlessly with Apple's platform, which has more than 2.5 billion active devices.
