The festival was selected for Siheung City's regional specialty tourism festival support program. It will offer programs combining global coffee culture with performances, art, international exchange, and hands-on activities for residents. The festival will be linked with the "Hiphan Festival," organized by the city's Culture and Arts Division, and will also feature a special performance of Bach's "Coffee Cantata."
Events during the festival will include the World Coffee Championship (WCC), the K-Coffee Award, a barista championship for people with disabilities, and a youth coffee-making championship. Alongside roasting, latte art, and tasting competitions, a coffee quiz for residents will test their knowledge of coffee history, origins, varieties, and brewing.
At the "Coffee Workshop," making its debut this year, participants can use premium coffee beans to create their own blends and drip bags. Participants for some programs will be recruited through advance reservations.
International exchange events with coffee-producing countries will also take place. Ambassadors and diplomatic officials from several producer countries will attend and introduce their countries' coffee and cultures. Local cafes from across the country, coffee-related companies, and experts will showcase coffee, desserts, and cultural products. Tastings, cultural activities, performances, exhibitions, and a flea market will also be held.
The Siheung City Social Economy Support Center, Amnesty International, Green Umbrella, and others will take part in programs that share with residents the social value of issues related to the environment, children, and local communities.
Siheung Mayor Lim Byeongtaek said, "The Siheung World Coffee Bean Festival is growing into a tourism festival that connects residents, the local community, and the world through coffee, a global cultural attraction. We hope it will be a festival where residents and visitors can experience diverse coffee cultures from around the world and share in the vitality of the local commercial district."
Festival director Kim Kyungmin said, "We have expanded programs that residents can take part in directly, such as the Coffee Workshop and the coffee quiz. We hope visitors will enjoy tasting, making, and learning about coffees from around the world at Eungye Lake Park this fall."
