"Even if they are providing support, it would be at a very low level," he wrote. "But I believe they are not providing any support at all." He added that the United States would quickly find out if any support were actually being provided.
In July, Trump said he trusted that China and Russia would not help Tehran in the war with Iran. He warned, however, that if they did get involved, "it would be very bad for them." Trump also warned Chinese President Xi Jinping not to support Iran when Xi made a state visit to Washington, D.C., for a U.S.-China summit in September.
Russia and China have maintained friendly relations with Iran for a long time. Both countries have repeatedly denied the allegations, despite continued media reports pointing to signs of military cooperation since the war between the United States and Iran began in late February.
The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on Sept. 11 that Chinese companies had supplied Iran with drone and missile components, and that U.S. officials believed satellite imagery obtained from China had been used in an Iranian attack that killed three U.S. service members. However, direct involvement by the Chinese government has not been confirmed.
