"Welcron Hantec's Track Record in Precursor and Waste Battery Crystallization Facilities Raises Order Hopes"
Welcron Hantec is expected to increase orders on the strength of its track record in precursor and waste battery crystallization facilities, following the resolution of project financing (PF) risks and a return to profitability.
“Welcron Hantec has a track record of orders in power plant water and wastewater treatment using ultrafiltration (UF), reverse osmosis (RO), and electrodeionization (EDI) technologies, as well as in the food, pharmaceutical, and secondary battery industries with concentration facilities using mechanical vapor recompression (MVR),” Lee Choong-heon, a researcher at Value Finder, said on October 13. “It also has turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) capabilities, including for solid refuse fuel (SRF) production and waste-to-energy cogeneration facilities.”
He added, “The company also has a track record of EPC projects for water and wastewater treatment at liquefied natural gas (LNG) power plants, so it is expected to benefit when the draft 12th Basic Plan for Long-Term Electricity Supply and Demand is announced. As demand for thermal energy recycling and SRF reprocessing grows with the expanded ban on the direct landfilling of household waste, revenue from its energy business is also expected to increase.”
A recovery in the secondary battery industry could also lead to equipment orders from cathode material companies and waste battery recycling companies. In the ternary cathode material process, evaporation, concentration, and crystallization plants are used to purify process solutions to a high degree and recover metal salts during precursor production and lithium refining. In waste battery recycling, these plants are used to leach and crystallize black powder to recover usable valuable metals.
“The draft of the 12th Basic Plan for Long-Term Electricity Supply and Demand is expected to be released this month, and LNG facility capacity is likely to be revised upward from the current 67.0 gigawatts (GW) to at least 71.5 GW,” Lee said. “Assuming capacity additions average 2.2 GW annually over the approximately 12 years through 2038, this would generate more than KRW 70 billion in new orders per year for Welcron Hantec.”

He added, “Welcron Hantec has built a value chain with waste business planning capabilities by securing EPC references and stakes in the SFR processing plants of Mirae Jeju, Ewell Energy, Ariwell Energy, and Dongwon Energy. It can generate revenue by absorbing waste collection costs and selling SRF and electricity generated from waste. Amendments to the Waste Management Act are also expected to increase the number of resource recovery facilities that incinerate waste and use the resulting thermal energy.”
