Zelenskyy: "Russia Violates Energy Ceasefire... Will Respond If Attacks Don't Stop"
"If Russia wants attacks on its refineries to stop, it must stop first"
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned on the 12th (local time) that "Russia attacked Ukraine's gas facilities overnight," adding that "if Russia does not agree to a ceasefire, we will respond."
According to the Office of the President of Ukraine, Zelenskyy said in a speech at the Warsaw Security Forum in Poland that day that "just after midnight, a Russian jet-powered Shahed drone struck a gas production facility in Ukraine." Earlier, Ukraine's state-owned energy company Naftogaz said that a gas production facility in the Kharkiv region had come under Russian attack overnight, damaging critical equipment and causing a fire.
Zelenskyy said that "Russia also attacked ordinary gas stations," calling these "examples of Russia violating the energy ceasefire announced by U.S. President Donald Trump." He added that "so far, Putin's answer to President Trump has been Russian attacks."
"If Russia wants our attacks on its refineries and oil export facilities to stop, Russia must stop its attacks first," Zelenskyy stressed. "It must stop killing our people." He added, "We are grateful to the United States and support the energy ceasefire proposal," and said, "If Russia does not agree to an energy ceasefire this winter, we will respond."

Attention is focused on whether Russia and Ukraine will actually implement a ceasefire after President Trump claimed on the 11th that the two countries had agreed to a ceasefire in the energy sector. Neither Russia nor Ukraine has clearly confirmed whether there was a prior agreement, prompting speculation that Trump's claim of a "ceasefire agreement" was an attempt to pressure the parties to drive down energy prices ahead of the U.S. midterm elections. On September 14, Trump made the same claim, saying the two sides had agreed not to strike energy targets, but attacks by both sides continued afterward.
