“Packed with 13 Years of Know-How”... Hanssem Launches Timeless and Nove Recliners
Low-back design and two-motor system incorporated
Body types and usage patterns informed by field tests with 200 customers
Recliner sofas, long established as the byword for comfort, have now entered the “design competition.” As more consumers favor a clean silhouette like that of a standard sofa over a large, bulky appearance, a new choice criterion is emerging: “attractive recliners that don’t look like recliners,” with all the same functionality but a look that blends naturally into living room interiors.
Hanssem’s electric recliner sofas “Timeless” and “Nove,” launched last month, have streamlined designs and enhanced functionality and quality to meet this shift. Since introducing Korea’s first electric recliner sofa among home interior brands in 2013, Hanssem has applied 13 years of accumulated product development experience to its new products. Starting at the planning stage, the company conducted field tests with 200 actual customers and analyzed data on their usage patterns and body types.
Both products reduce the bulkiness and complex seam lines characteristic of recliners and feature a low-back design. Lowering the headrest gives them a low, streamlined profile like that of a standard sofa. “Timeless” minimizes vertical seams and features a wide skirt. It comes in two colors: “Red Bean” and “White.” “Nove” has a linear silhouette with double-piping trim and is available in “Dove Gray” and “White.”
The products’ core recliner functions and seating comfort have also been enhanced. Layered gradient pocket springs and high-density memory foam gently cradle the body while supporting its weight from below, creating a medium-soft feel. The seat height was also designed using standard Korean body measurements so that users’ heels rest naturally on the floor. Both products feature a two-motor system that allows the headrest and seat to be adjusted independently.
The leather surface is made with natural bullhide from Italian company Pelle Milano. The products also passed the safety standards set by the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards in tests for hazardous substances, including formaldehyde, arylamines and PFCs. E0-grade materials were used for the internal wooden frame.

A Hanssem representative said, “We focused on changing the perception that furniture has to compromise on design to provide comfort.” The representative added, “Building on 13 years of accumulated product development know-how, we will continue to introduce products that blend naturally into a space like standard sofas while delivering the core functions and quality of recliners.”
