The Adopt-a-Beach program is a campaign organized by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation. Companies and organizations adopt specific beaches and regularly carry out environmental cleanup and ecosystem protection activities. Since adopting Pyeongdong Beach in September 2025, Korea Zinc has conducted four cleanup activities, including this one.
During this activity, the company also examined changes in the types and amounts of waste, using the 46.9 kg of marine debris collected during the first cleanup in September 2026 as baseline data.
Korea Zinc is also pursuing a project to cultivate underwater forests to restore marine ecosystems. In July 2026, it signed a business agreement with Ulsan Metropolitan City and the Korea Fisheries Resources Agency, pledging KRW 100 million to support the area around Pyeongdong Beach. Through June 2027, the project is scheduled to establish a seaweed propagation zone, control herbivorous marine animals such as turban snails and sea urchins, collect waste, and monitor marine life.
