TJ Innovation to Supply DAS to SoftBank, Expand Push in Japan
TJ Innovation, a company specializing in wireless communications infrastructure equipment, announced on October 12 that it will supply high-power optical distributed antenna systems (DAS) to Japanese mobile carrier SoftBank.
TJ Innovation is a wireless communications infrastructure equipment company that has developed mobile repeaters and DAS, leveraging its digital signal processing technology as a competitive strength. The company was recently selected as a vendor for high-power optical DAS. It has also been doing business as an official communications equipment vendor for SoftBank.
The supply marks an expansion of TJ Innovation's product portfolio beyond equipment focused on small-scale and standard repeaters into high-power wireless infrastructure systems used in large buildings and complex facilities.
High-power optical DAS is a system that receives base station signals over fiber-optic links and provides mobile communications services inside buildings and large facilities through multiple remote radio units. Because it is designed to cover broad service areas, including large commercial venues, transportation facilities, and complex buildings, it requires the reliable integration of various technologies, including high-power radio frequency (RF) performance, optical transmission, multi-frequency processing, digital signal processing, system control, and network connectivity.
Because the equipment is deployed directly on mobile carriers' commercial networks, long-term operational stability, quality and reliability, and the ability to accommodate each carrier's network specifications and operating systems are also important.
The supply of high-power optical DAS to SoftBank is an example of TJ Innovation applying its accumulated expertise in digital signal processing and wireless communications equipment to large-scale DAS equipment at the system level.
TJ Innovation supplies mobile repeaters to KDDI and Rakuten Mobile in Japan and continues to do business as a vendor for all three of the country's major mobile carriers, including SoftBank. The company plans to continue expanding its existing repeater business while ramping up supplies of high-power optical DAS to SoftBank and broadening its portfolio with various types of digital repeaters and DAS products.
