Hanul Semiconductor Wins Contract to Upgrade Inspection Equipment for Japan-Based Global MLCC Maker
Hanul Semiconductor will improve the artificial intelligence (AI) performance of visual inspection equipment for a Japan-based global manufacturer of multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs).
Hanul Semiconductor said on October 12 that it had won the project.
For high-capacitance MLCCs, technology that can precisely identify defects such as microcracks is increasingly important as the number of layers rises and products become smaller. Components used in AI servers and vehicles must also meet high reliability standards, increasing the need for equipment that can quickly and accurately inspect every chip produced.
Hanul Semiconductor has supplied inspection and process equipment to major domestic MLCC manufacturers for many years. The company developed its own AI inspection platform, HaWAIe, which combines image processing with AI deep learning to improve the detection of defects that are difficult to identify using conventional methods, including microcracks and irregular defects. In its own performance tests, the company’s six-sided MLCC visual inspection equipment recorded an inspection speed of more than 13,000 units per minute and a defect detection accuracy rate of about 98% for the 0603 size.
With this contract, Hanul Semiconductor plans to expand its chip inspection equipment business, which has focused on the domestic market, overseas. It aims to increase projects to add AI functions to and improve the performance of existing equipment installed overseas, while also securing opportunities to supply new inspection equipment as customers expand production capacity.
