At the Amsa-dong Prehistoric Site, under the theme "The Beginning of Seoul, Amsa"
Featuring a drone show, prehistoric barbecue, Lee Sedol talk concert, and more
Gangdong-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Lee Suhee), announced on the 12th that it will hold the 31st Gangdong Prehistoric Culture Festival for three days, from October 16 to 18, at the Seoul Amsa-dong Prehistoric Site and around Amsa History Park.
This year's festival will be held under the theme "The Beginning of Seoul, Amsa." It will feature a variety of activities for visitors of all ages, from programs offering hands-on experiences of the history and culture of the prehistoric Neolithic era 6,000 years ago to performances by local residents and a nighttime light festival.
The festival will open on October 16, its first day, with events including the "Dream Parade," a Namsadang performance, and a lighting ceremony at the "Wishes Come True" site. At the opening ceremony on the main stage in the afternoon, a drone show will light up the night sky, followed by celebratory performances by Space A, singer Wax, and Seol Woon-do.
On October 17, the second day, events will include a reenactment of "Bawijeol Village Hosan Nori," designated an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Seoul, performances by the district's arts troupe, and the "Gangdong Lifelong Learning Clubs Passion Festa." On a forest stage at the historic site, archaeologist Kwak Min-su and webtoon artist Lee Jong-beom will hold a talk concert exploring prehistoric culture in an engaging way. In the evening, the Prehistoric Singing Contest and the "Electric Forest Music Festival" will add to the festive atmosphere.
On October 18, the final day, nine-dan Go player Lee Sedol will discuss Go and life at the "Lee Sedol Talk Concert: A Divine Move." The "Prehistoric Rock (樂) Festival" and closing performances by Shin Hyo-beom, So Chan-whee, and Nam Jin will follow, with a spectacular fireworks show bringing the festival to a close.
Throughout the festival, hands-on activities engaging all five senses will be available at the prehistoric settlement site, including "Prehistoric Barbecue," the "Time-Slip Handcrafted Market," and "Prehistoric Pit House Building." Every day from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., light installations along the trail will illuminate the night as part of the "Nighttime Light Festival," alongside a media facade show projected onto the museum's exterior walls.
During the festival, vehicle traffic will be completely restricted on the stretch between Seonsa Elementary School and Seowon Village, while access to Olympic-ro 108-gil will be partially restricted. The district has set up temporary parking lots at nearby Seonsa Elementary School, Seonsa High School, and Sinam Middle School, but expects traffic congestion and recommends using public transportation.
