2-Month-Old Girl Dies with Bruises... Gyeonggi Nambu Police Investigate Biological Father for Murder
Home Camera Footage Appears to Have Been Deleted After the Baby Was Pronounced Dead
Police Also Considering Child Abuse Charges
Police are investigating a biological father in his 40s who was taken into emergency custody on suspicion of killing his 2-month-old daughter, after signs of trauma, including bruises, were found on her body.
Osan Police Station in Gyeonggi Province said on October 11 that it had taken Mr. A into emergency custody on suspicion of murder. Police plan to transfer the case to the Women's Safety Division of the Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency for further investigation.
According to police, at around 3:47 a.m. on October 11, they received a 112 emergency call reporting that a 2-month-old child was not breathing at a home in Seo-dong, Osan. Paramedics from the 119 emergency services arrived with police who had been dispatched to the scene and took Baby B to a nearby hospital, but she died while receiving treatment.
At the hospital, police found signs of trauma, including bruises, on Baby B's body and began investigating with the possibility of a crime in mind.
During the investigation, police also found evidence that Mr. A had deleted footage from a home camera installed at the residence. According to police, after Baby B was pronounced dead at the hospital, Mr. A remotely deleted some home camera footage recorded that morning using his cellphone. Police took Mr. A into emergency custody after considering this and other circumstances.
Police plan to request an autopsy of Baby B's body from the National Forensic Service to determine the exact cause of death. They are also considering whether to charge Mr. A with child abuse. Police confirmed that no reports of child abuse involving Baby B had been filed before this incident.
Because the victim was under 10, police plan to transfer the case to the Women's Safety Division of the Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency, a higher-level agency, to continue the investigation.
