Mother-in-law in her 50s dies after being stabbed
Wife rescued unharmed and suspect arrested on a mountain in Yangyang
A man in his 20s who allegedly stabbed and killed the mother of his wife, with whom he is in divorce proceedings, and forced his wife into a car before fleeing was arrested by police in Yangyang, Gangwon Province, about seven hours after the crime.
According to the Songpa Police Station in Seoul on Oct. 11, police have urgently arrested and are questioning a man in his mid-20s, identified only as A, on suspicion of murdering an ascendant and kidnapping, among other charges. A is suspected of stabbing his mother-in-law, who was in her 50s, with a weapon in Songpa-gu, Seoul, that morning, then forcing his wife, who is in her 20s, into his car and fleeing.
At 5:38 a.m., shortly after the crime, police received an urgent 112 call reporting, "A man is trying to drag a woman away. One woman is lying on the ground," and immediately dispatched officers. The mother-in-law was found at the scene in cardiac arrest and rushed to a nearby hospital, but ultimately died.
After learning that A had abducted his wife and fled, police launched an immediate joint investigation with the Gangwon Provincial Police Agency and narrowed down his escape route. They later found the car used in the escape and the abducted wife unharmed on a mountain in Yangyang County, Gangwon Province. After continuing the search in the area, police successfully arrested A at 12:35 p.m. that day.
