Gapyeong County in Gyeonggi Province held a ceremony at Gapyeong Sports Complex on October 8 to mark the 59th Gapyeong County Residents' Day, pledging unity among residents and local development.

View original imageSome 3,000 people attended, including Gapyeong County Mayor Seo Tae-won, Gapyeong County Council Chairman Kim Jong-seong, county council members, National Assembly member Kim Yong-tae, heads of institutions and civic groups, and residents from the county's six towns and townships.
In his commemorative address, Mayor Seo said, "With the participation and support of our residents, we successfully hosted the Gyeonggi-do Sports Festival for All in August and September, showcasing Gapyeong's capabilities both at home and abroad." He added, "In its ninth popularly elected term, the Gapyeong County administration will put the will of its residents at the center of its work and build a better future for Gapyeong together with them."
The ceremony opened with performances by the Gogo Janggu Alliance and Cheongpyeong Vocals, followed by the entrance of delegations from the towns and townships, the national ceremony, awards, commemorative and congratulatory addresses, a congratulatory video, and the declaration of the games. Gyeonggi Province Governor Choo Mi-ae and others congratulated residents on the occasion through video messages.
Gapyeong County presented its Residents' Awards to people who had contributed to the community in seven fields, including local development, social service, industry and the economy, environmental conservation, and culture and the arts. It also congratulated the recipients of Gyeonggi Province Residents' Awards in eight fields, including upholding law and order, rural development, social welfare, and the local economy.
The event was held after Gapyeong hosted the 20th Gyeonggi-do Sports Festival for Persons with Disabilities in August and the 37th Gyeonggi-do Sports Festival for All in September. Residents, volunteers, and athletes who helped support the two events gathered again to reflect on the region's capabilities and share their pride in the community.

After the ceremony, performances by invited singers were followed by inter-township athletic events and a fun sports day. Athletes competed in 10 official sports and seven fun sports day events, including a relay featuring representatives from the towns and townships. Residents and cheering squads also joined in, encouraging the athletes and sharing in the spirit of unity.
