KAI Signs 114.5 Billion Won Logistics Support Contract for Marine Corps MUH-1 Helicopters
Parts supply and maintenance support through 2031... to improve helicopter availability
Expand business leveraging 15 years of accumulated logistics support capabilities
Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) has signed a 114.5 billion won contract with the Defense Acquisition Program Administration for a performance-based logistics (PBL) support program for the Marine Corps’ MUH-1 amphibious maneuver helicopters. The company plans to improve availability by proactively managing parts needed to operate the helicopters and strengthening maintenance support.
KAI said on Oct. 8 that it had signed the contract with the Defense Acquisition Program Administration for the MUH-1 PBL program. The contract runs for about five years, from this month through December 2031.
The MUH-1 is an amphibious maneuver helicopter developed for operations at sea and aboard ships. It has been deployed with the Marine Corps since 2017, carrying out amphibious assault and air transport missions.
Unlike the traditional approach of simply supplying parts, PBL provides logistical support based on operational performance, including aircraft availability and maintenance reliability.
Under the contract, KAI plans to establish a follow-on support system to ensure the stable operation of the MUH-1. The company aims to improve the helicopter’s operational stability by proactively managing parts and maintenance resources.
KAI will also expand its logistics support programs for exported aircraft. Its strategy is to build a stable business foundation by securing long-term follow-on support demand, including parts supply and maintenance, after aircraft sales.
